Deon Burnett 11-yard run, Rian Lindell kick. Eight plays, 80 yards, 3:29. The Cougars took the opening kickoff and went straight down the field thanks to in large part to 27 penalty yards on the Sun Devils. Twelve of those yards came on a third-and-4 at the ASU 23 on a roughing-the-passer penalty after Steve Birnbaum had thrown an incomplete pass.

Leaford Hackett 11-yard pass from Birnbaum, Lindell kick. Eight plays, 65 yards, 1:58. On fourth-and-6 at the WSU 39, punter Kareem Anderson pulled off a fake and went for 16 yards around the left side to keep the drive alive, Burnett followed up Anderson’s fake with a 22-yard run.
