New faces:
Cindy Quillan has joined Mountain West Bank as vice president and manager of its Ironwood branch in Coeur d’Alene. Quillan has more than 20 years of retail bank management and commercial banking experience in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.
Dr. Matthew Layton has been named associate medical director at Spokane Mental Health Psychiatric Services. Layton received a medical degree and a PhD from Kansas University. He previously was medical director for inpatient psychiatry, ECT and access clinic at the University of Washington in Seattle. Layton also is a UW clinical assistant professor.
Shayna Lund has joined the Spokane accounting firm of McDirmid, Mikkelsen & Secrest P.S. as a staff accountant.
Moving up:
Darlene Septelka, assistant professor of construction management at WSU Spokane, has been named coordinator of the Spokane construction management program for the 1999-2000 academic year. Septelka has 27 years of experience in the construction industry, most recently with Boeing in Seattle. She received a master’s degree in construction management from the University of Washington.
The following people have been promoted to assistant vice president by Sterling Savings Bank:
Judy Dawson, compliance manager/administrative services, joined Sterling Savings in 1991 as a loan collection counselor in special assets. Since then, she has served as collection counselor/quality control, consumer quality control loan reviewer, administrative services credit reviewer, internal auditor and, most recently, compliance manager. Dawson previously was a project coordinator for the Citizen Ambassador Programs for People to People International and worked for U.S. Bank’s Student Loan Center. She is a graduate of Washington State University.
Gary Dvojack was hired by Sterling in 1997 as an internal auditor and was recently promoted to senior auditor. He previously worked as a bank examiner for the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Office of Thrift Supervision. Earlier experience includes internal auditor for Inter West Bank and a CPA with Ernst and Young. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University.
Claire LaFargue, marketing products and services manager, joined Sterling from AT&T Wireless Services in July 1998. She has more than six years of experience in the product marketing/ sales management field. LaFargue, who attended Gonzaga University, previously held various positions at AT&T Wireless Services, most recently as an indirect account representative.
McDirmid, Mikkelsen & Secrest P.S. has promoted the following employees: Todd Carlson and Andrew McDirmid were promoted to manager. Keith Schmidt was named a supervisor, and Cassandra Mulligan and Lori Largent were elevated to senior accountants. Deanna Kriegh, Linda Shrope and Leonard Sweet were promoted to staff A positions.

Rich Hadley, president of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, has been honored for his contributions to the 3,700-member Association of Washington Business. Hadley was cited for his work in increasing the involvement of chambers of commerce across the state in AWB activities.
Allied Security has been ranked as the 12th-largest security systems integrator in the United States by Security Distributing Magazine, a trade publication. The ranking represents those firms that integrate a variety of security systems, including burglar, fire, CCTV, card access and photo identification. A privately owned company, Allied Security has been doing business in the Northwest for more than 50 years.
The Little Red Schoolhouse, a child-care center in downtown Spokane, has been awarded a $25,000 state grant to expand and enhance its programs for children, ages birth to six years. The grant came from the Child Care Facility Fund, created by the Washington state Legislature to encourage and expand the supply of private sector, employer-sponsored child-care facilities statewide. Metropolitan Mortgage & Securities subsidizes child-care costs for employees who enroll their children at the center. The grant was used to buy new equipment and for program enrichment.
