Cda, County Aim To Settle Annexation

County Administrator Tom Taggart will appear before the Coeur d’Alene City Council today to try to work out an annexation agreement.

The county doesn’t want to pay a $44,000 annexation fee, and the city has concerns about hours of operation for a recreational vehicle dump.

The city has voted to annex the north end of the fairgrounds where the county is building a work release center and the dump station.

In return, the county has been willing to give the city a strip of land along Dalton for a bike path, Taggart said.

Mayor Steve Judy said last week that he hoped the city and county can settle the issue at the City Council meeting at 6 p.m. today.

Taggart said the city has been reasonable during the negotiations, “but from our perspective, we are tight on cash and we are trying to work something out.”

The county is paying about $375,000 for necessary permits and hookups for water and sewer. Judy said the $44,000 is based on a formula charged to any commercial business that the city accepts into Coeur d’Alene. But county leaders say their work release center is not a commercial business and should be dealt with differently.
