School Starts Today For Mullan Students
Summer is officially over for students in the Mullan school district as classes start today.
Mullan is the first public school in North Idaho to open for the 2000-01 academic year.
The majority of schools in the area, both public and private, begin class Tuesday, Sept. 5.
Some exceptions include Falls Christian Academy and North Idaho Christian School, which open Monday.
Schools in the Plummer/Worley school district start Aug. 31.
Sandpoint Junior Academy, a Seventh-day Adventist school teaching grades 1-10, opened Wednesday.
Secretary Karen States said that’s earlier than usual but teachers have a good excuse - they’re going to the Holy Land.
The school’s seven faculty members are taking a “winter break” Feb. 19 to March 2, to travel the Middle East.
The trip will include other teachers from North Idaho, Eastern Washington and Oregon.
States said the tour will enhance the Junior Academy’s Bible study teachings.
“When you see something firsthand, it just makes it real,” she said.
The school’s 70 students will have those two weeks off and that’s why they began the school year so early, States said.
