The Dish

The pot pies at Lindaman’s might be as good as a Gore-Tex jacket at making you feel warm and toasty this winter.

That nostalgic dish is given gourmet treatment at the South Hill institution, where it’s become a customer fave. The selection changes daily, with a good mix of traditional ingredients (the chicken pot pie is the most popular) along with some clever combinations.

I went nuts over the “ultimate mac and cheese” pie — noodles, artichoke hearts and sauteed mushrooms in a rich, cheesy sauce topped with a flaky crust. Let’s just call it a carbo load and a half.

The barbecued beef I sampled a while back was also mighty fine, slightly spicy with an exceptional chipotle pepper-flavored crust. (That one’s currently being retooled, as it wasn’t selling well.)

This deep-dish dose of comfort food runs around $7 (which includes a side salad and roll), but it’s practically big enough for two.

Lindaman’s is located at 1235 S. Grand Blvd.
