Smith Tallies Five Points To Lead Spokane Over Prince George

Tim Smith scored a pair of goals and had three assists and Jeff Lucky and Steven Mann each scored two goals Thursday night to spark the Spokane Chiefs to a 7-5 Western Hockey League win over the Prince George Cougars.

It was the second victory for the Chiefs over the host Cougars in as many nights.

Spokane (17-12-5-1) led three times in the opening period only to see Prince George (14-17-4-3) rally to tie the game.

Lucky put the Chiefs up 1-0 with a power-play goal just 1:51 into the contest. Mann’s fourth and fifth goals of the season, the first with a man advantage, gave Spokane leads of 2-1 and 3-2.

Chris Ovington’s second goal of the year came on a power play just 2:26 into the second period and put the Chiefs up for good. Lucky made it 5-3 with a power-play score at the 15:02 mark of the second. It was his 16th goal.

Smith scored twice in the final period. His second goal of the game and 18th of the season was an empty-netter at 17:40.

Spokane found the net four times in eight power-play opportunities.
