Idaho Loses In Consolation
Women’s basketball
Forward Anne Tierney finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds Saturday to lead Lehigh to a 73-57 win over Idaho in the consolation game of the Saint Mary’s Christmas Classic at Moraga, Calif.
Tierney made 8 of 14 field goals and 6 of 7 free throws. Lehigh outscored the Vandals by 14 points at the free-throw line.
Idaho’s Darci Pemberton had a game-high 12 rebounds, nine on the offensive end. The Vandals faded in the second half by shooting 29 percent from the field.

Montana 80, Washington State 66
Lauren Cooper scored 10 of her 21 points during a span of less than 4 minutes, including two 3-pointers, as the Grizzlies topped the Cougars in the title game of the Lady Griz Holiday Classic at Missoula.
Montana held a 55-49 lead when Cooper hit back-to-back 3-pointers with 8:50 and 7:13 left. She added a layup and a jumper in the next 2 minutes for a 65-53 advantage.
The Grizzlies jumped to leads of 8-1, 18-9 and 31-18 by hitting 12 of 14 free throws in the opening half. The Cougars cut the edge to five points three times in the second half, but Julie Deming fought off one of the rallies with four points in a 19-second gap.
WSU’s Kelley Berglund scored 13 of her game-high 23 points during a span of less than 15 minutes in the second half. She added a game-best 10 rebounds.

Angie Lewis and Amanda Edlund combined to hit 11 of 13 free throws and 10 of 18 field goals to lead the Cardinals over the Timbermen at the Big Bend CC Tournament in Moses Lake.
The Cardinals made 18 of 19 secondhalf free throws to finish 22 of 26. Edlund also had a game-high 13 rebounds.
NIC finished 2-1 at the tourney. Umpqua’s Silver Pierce hit 5 of 9 field goals, including three 3-pointers.

Lakeside High grad Brianne Jolley totaled 22 points and eight rebounds, and the NAIA Division I fourth-ranked Warriors built a 20-point lead and held off the host Pirates.
Whitworth led 15-9 after 7:15, but the Warriors used a 23-13 rebounding edge and a 18-5 run to build a 12-point halftime lead.
LCSC increased its lead to 20 points with 13 minutes left. Chrissy Oneal came off the bench to score nine during a Whitworth 14-2 run, but the Pirates couldn’t come closer than eight points.
Whitworth’s Mindy Bandy had a game-high nine rebounds and scored 12, one off her career best.

Michelle St. Clair hit 4 of 8 3-pointers to score a game-high 20 points, and the Hornets defeated the visiting Bulldogs to snap a 12-game losing streak stretching back to last season.
Sac State jumped to a 9-2 lead and never allowed GU closer than four points after that. The Hornets, holding a 59-55 lead with 4 minutes left, sealed the win with a 7-0 run.
The Hornets hit 15 of 30 field goals in the first half, including 5-of-8 shooting from long range.
Nathalie Chevallay made 4 of 8 field goals and 5 of 6 free throws for GU, and guard Bernice Stime had a career-best 12 rebounds.
