Powerball Prize Still Uncollected Time Running Out; Ticket Expires On Monday

Need some extra cash for Valentine’s Day? Try thumbing through those old lottery tickets on your dresser.

A Powerball ticket worth $100,000 remains unclaimed and will expire on Monday, the Idaho Lottery says.

The ticket was purchased at The Little Store in Priest River on Aug. 16. Winning numbers were 5, 8, 9, 26 and 41.

“We’d like to give them their Valentine. Their sweetie certainly would appreciate it,” lottery spokeswoman Paula Garriott said.

The drawing took place on Aug. 18. Winners have 180 days to turn in their ticket at the lottery’s office in Boise. So if someone found the ticket Monday morning, they’d probably have to hop a plane to reach the lottery office before it closes.

If no one comes forward, the $100,000 will go back into the lottery’s unclaimed prize fund. Dividends from the lottery support Idaho’s public schools and building fund.

“It’s unusual for prize money to go unclaimed, though we’ve had a couple that have gone right down to the wire,” Garriott said.

“We wanted to advertise it as widely as possible, in case someone has it tucked away in a pocket, wallet or glove box.”
