Sentencing Delayed For Former Candidate

From Staff Reports

Former Sandpoint mayoral candidate Thomas Boone was scheduled to be sentenced Monday for sexual abuse of a child, but the hearing was delayed until Friday to give him time to read sentencing documents.

Before rescheduling, 1st District Judge James Michaud listened to testimony from Boone’s victim, an 11-year-old girl who tearfully asked Michaud to sentence Boone to life because he’s “crazy and mean.” The girl also said that Boone raped her.

In a letter to Michaud, the girl shared crude and sexual stories Boone had told her.

Michaud delayed the sentencing until 1 p.m. Friday, and ordered Boone back into custody with bail set at $75,000.

Boone was arrested the day before last fall’s election and only received seven votes.
