Ferris Dumps G-Prep In Still-Muddled Gsl
GSL girls
The Greater Spokane League bas- ketball championship was almost decided and the playoff teams were decided on Tuesday.
Still, Tuesday’s action didn’t do much to clarify the playoff pairings.
Katie Foster hit two free throws with 6.5 seconds left as Ferris knocked Gonzaga Prep out of a share for first with a 48-46 win at Spokane Falls.
“I knew I was going to make them,” Foster said. “Pressure helps me.”
Mead clinched a tie for the GSL title with a 59-38 win at North Central.
The Panthers are tied with Central Valley, which rolled past Mt. Spokane 72-40. However, with Mead idle on Thursday, CV goes to University. A U-Hi win could mean a three-way tie for second - if Prep beats Shadle Park - forcing two tiebreaker games over the weekend.
Shadle Park grabbed the last playoff spot with an 11-0 run in OT to eliminate Lewis and Clark 61-50 at the Arena.
Rogers just missed getting its first win, falling at East Valley 70-68 in OT.
Ferris 48, Gonzaga Prep 46
After Foster’s two free throws, Juliann Laney went coast-to-coast and was fouled with less than a second left. Her shot just rimmed out, then she missed the first free throw. She was forced to miss the second one on purpose and the Saxons tapped the ball away.
Megan Taylor, who had three points in the first meeting but a season-high 17 this time.
Laney ended up with 18 points, but had little scoring help.
Taylor started the comeback from a 32-25 deficit with 3 minutes to go in the third quarter. Jenny Benzel and Foster hit 3-pointers to put the Saxons up 34-32 entering the fourth.
