Toaster Muffins Join On-The-Go Breakfasts

Rick Bonino Food Editor

What kind of muffins can you make in a toaster?

Eggo Toaster Muffins, of course, Kellogg’s curious new hybrid of muffins, pancakes and French toast.

Crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, they’re billed as an easy, onthe-go breakfast for busy weekday mornings.

The blueberry version that we served to The Spokesman-Review’s reader food panel (they also come in strawberry and cinnamon) drew mixed reactions. Some tasters thought they were pretty good, while others found them too sweet and just too strange.

And besides, as an advertising slogan, “Leggo my toaster muffin,” just doesn’t quite cut it.

Comments: “At first glance, I wondered what was being presented to me, but the blueberries were pretty tasty. This would be good to grab to eat on the run instead of something like a doughnut.” - Ella Gordon-Stowe

“If this was a muffin, I’m a 3-foot-tall green Martian. Tasted like a dense blueberry pancake in the shape of a piece of bread. Not sure what they were going for, but I’m sure they didn’t achieve it.” - Skip Hubbard
