Climber Will Show Slides Of Ascent
Mountain climber Steve Schneider will show slides of his ascent of The Tower of Paine in Patagonia, South America, at North Idaho College Friday night.
The show, titled “No Turning Back,” begins at 7 p.m. in the Edminster Student Union Building. Admission is $2 at the door.
Schneider completed an 18-day climb of the mountain, which is hailed as the most difficult solo climb in Patagonia.
Halfway up the 4,000-foot face, Schneider’s climbing partner turned back. Schneider, who has completed 55 ascents of Yosemite’s El Capitan, continued on for 11 days alone, completing the climb without fixed ropes. He was the first American to attain the summit solo.
