Fight For The Fish Is One Worth Continuing

The Fight for the Fish the spirit basketball games between the Coeur d’Alene and Lake City boys and girls teams - is what high school activities are all about.

For the second year, LC’s gym was filled to more than its 2,700 capacity.

Last year, just the boys teams fought for the fish. The game was arranged too late to include the girls.

The schools have struck gold. It’s a formula that should work well into the new millennium.

Students, parents, extended family, neighbors, co-workers, non-partisans from both sides of town gathered for 3 hours of entertainment.

It’s almost as if the games were secondary and the spirit activities were the main event.

Kudos to the administrators of both schools for fostering an atmosphere of good sportsmanship and wholesome fun.

Kudos to the students of both schools for exemplary behavior.

Kudos to the players - some of whom are friends with their crosstown rivals - for letting their play and not their mouths decide the outcome.

It’s heartwarming to know a community cares about its teenagers in a time when some find it easier to highlight the negative over the positive.
