Guard Pilot Killed In Training Flight Crash

From Staff

An Idaho National Guard pilot was killed Thursday evening when his A-10 fighter plane crashed in Ada County during a training flight.

Ada County sheriff’s dispatch supervisor Myrna Harris said the pilot was the only one aboard the plane when it crashed in a field near Star, about 15 miles northwest of Boise, at 6:42 p.m.

The plane was believed to be from the Idaho National Guard facility at Boise.

Harris said investigators with the Federal Aviation Administration were examining the scene of the crash about two hours later, but had not determined why the plane went down.

The pilot’s name was not being released at that time.

An eyewitness said the plane seemed to arc before plummeting into the ground.
