Samuelson Service Set For Wednesday

A funeral service for former Gov. Don Samuelson is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in Sandpoint.

Samuelson died Thursday at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. He was 86.

Samuelson won the 1966 election for Idaho governor against Cecil Andrus, but lost the seat to Andrus four years later. He was a state senator representing the Sandpoint area from 1960 to 1966.

A staunch conservative, Samuelson remained active in the Republican party until his death. He is survived by his wife, Ruby; a son, Steve; a daughter, Donna Collins; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
