Men Charged With Aggravated Assault After Confrontation
Two men from Hope, Idaho, were arrested Saturday following a dispute that led to at least one gunshot.
Neither of the men were injured in the confrontation, despite the fact both had guns.
David Maurice Demers, 45, and Gary Ivy, 44, both were arrested on charges of aggravated assault after Demers called 911 to report the threat from Ivy.
When officers arrived, they found Ivy - also known as Gary Phillips - walking down Peninsula Road on the Hope Peninsula. Ivy told officers that Demers was kicking him and pointed a gun at him, threatening to kill him. Demers then allegedly shot past Ivy’s head and into a wall with his .45-caliber handgun.
Demers said Ivy was pointing a .22-caliber rifle at him during a physical confrontation between the two, according to court documents.
During their first appearance in court Monday, Judge Barbara Buchanan denied Demers’ request for a public defender because of his property assets. Ivy said in court Monday that he was living with Demers and had no income.
