“If we can take steps to limit tobacco-related illnesses, it will be a grand step forward” - Sen. Jack Riggs, R-Coeur d’Alene, on putting the tobacco settlement money into a savings fund, which the Legislature approved.

Here are some of North Idaho Lawmakers’ votes in the past week:
Money won’t go up in smoke: The plan to put all of Idaho’s tobacco settlement proceeds in a savings account passed the Senate on Thursday.
Clyde Boatright, R-Rathdrum; Gordon Crow, R-Hayden; Shawn Keough, R-Sandpoint; Marguerite McLaughlin, D-Orofino; and Jack Riggs, R-Coeur d’Alene voted for it.
Milo Creek funding: The Legislature’s budget committee turned down Rep. Don Pischner’s bid for an extra quarter million dollars for flood control in the Silver Valley. Pischner, R-Coeur d’Alene, and Jim Clark, R-Hayden, voted for the increase. Boatright and McLaughlin voted against it.
Clean-up costs: The House Resources committee voted to approve a bill that would make mining companies take out bonds to pay for cleanup after the mining was done. Reps. Jerry Stoicheff, R-Sandpoint; John Campbell, R-Sandpoint; and Chuck Cuddy, D-Orofino, voted yes.
