Sorcinelli, Blue Devils Claim Tournament Title
Ben Sorcinelli threw a complete-game, four-hit shutout as the Blue Devils beat the Cannons 2-0 to earn the championship of the Senior American Legion Fourth of July Tournament at Al K. Jackson Field.
Jerin Harper had two hits, including an RBI single, to back Sorcinelli’s strong pitching effort. Ezra Bocook and Jason Wederspahn also had hits for the Blue Devils.
Matt Risley was 1 for 3 with a double for the Cannons. Rodgers, Nate Brown and Kevin Brown also contributed singles for the Cannons.
Seth Gemar pitched a solid four-hitter in a losing effort.
In the game for third and fourth places, the Black Hills Bandits of Olympia defeated the Great Falls (Mont.) Stallions 2-1.
John Stonecypher had an RBI single in the fifth inning to score the winning run for the Bandits. Corey Archibald pitched a complete-game five-hitter for the winners, while Travis Wright had two hits.
For Great Falls, five different players had one hit apiece.
In the championship game of the junior tournament, Lakeside Recovery Green of Bellevue beat Federal Way 8-0.
In the consolation game, the Walla Walla Bruins beat Woodard Construction (Mt. Spokane) 8-4.
No details were reported for either game.
Basketball
The Spokane Stars elite team plays Alberta’s Juvenile Women’s Provincial team at 8 tonight at Post Falls HS. The Stars face a team of area college stars at 7:30 p.m. July 13 at University HS. Admission is free to both.
