Man Faces Trial Over High-Speed Chase
A Kellogg businessman will stand trial on charges of leading police on a high-speed chase and endangering the lives of his children.
Alex Ray Smith, 34, pleaded not guilty Monday as he was arraigned before 1st District Judge Craig Kosonen. Smith is charged with eluding a peace officer and child endangerment, in connection with a Jan. 11 incident.
The trial date has not been set.
Police have said that Smith was driving up to 120 mph on Interstate 90 with his three young daughters in his car while officers chased him. His Cadillac Seville was found crashed into a guardrail. Smith was later arrested at his home.
According to Idaho and Washington court records, Smith has been involved in at least 19 traffic- or boating-related incidents in 16 years. They include convictions for driving under the influence. He has also received 10 speeding citations.
