Cremated Infant’S Ashes Found In Car

A mother was scheduled to pick up the cremated remains of an infant found in an abandoned vehicle Friday.

Coeur d’Alene firefighters discovered the cremated remains of a baby while they were doing training exercises on Friday.

Firefighters turned the ashes over to Coeur d’Alene police, who contacted the mother. She said she had stored them at a room in a friend’s home while she moved and they had been removed along with other items, Lt. Walt Roeske said.

The ashes ended up a car that had been impounded by Kootenai County. It didn’t appear as if any of the woman’s other items were in the car, Roeske said.
