Cda Redevelopment Plan For Downtown Finalized
The Coeur d’Alene Urban Renewal Agency met Wednesday and finalized plans for presenting a downtown redevelopment master plan to the City Council.
The agency will present the plan, prepared by the Portland consulting firm Walker-Macy, at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Coeur d’Alene High School, 5330 N. 4th St.
The City Council is expected to accept or deny the Walker-Macy plan, which offers concepts on how the city may improve public owned property in the downtown core.
The urban renewal agency set a list of community values that it recommends the city adopt:
Preserve the public-owned space as public space accessible to all citizens.
Promote and enhance open space.
Encourage greater use of public space for the community.
Encourage vistas and views.
Encourage the replacement of any displaced facilities with equal or better facilities.
Create a community gathering place.
Link the downtown area to the waterfront.
The resolution also asks that if the City Council decides to pursue suggestions in the plan, that it make those decisions contingent upon available funding.
“The Urban Renewal Agency recognizes that planning is an ongoing process and what may seem appropriate today may not be appropriate in the future as citizens’ interests, technology advances, government regulations and market conditions change over time,” the resolution states.
