Planning and Zoning commissioners Tuesday night unanimously approved an initial rezoning for a proposed subdivision.

Hayden-based Viking Construction hopes to build the Greensferry Junction subdivision east of Greensferry Road between Mullan and 12th avenues by this summer. The development would have 195 units, including town houses, condominiums, age-restricted housing and single-family houses.

The development would also include a six-acre open space, and a community center providing day care for children and meeting rooms for senior citizens. Plans also include hiking and bicycling trails.

“It’s a unique project unlike anything we’ve seen here in North Idaho,” said Michael Hunt, a planner for the development from Lake City Engineering. “The concept is that we are bringing different generations together.”

The proposal will go back to the commission April 11, and City Council members will vote on the development’s annexation April 18.
