Post Falls Scores Two Dramatic Softball Wins

The Post Falls softball team spread around its final-inning heroics during Saturday’s non-league games.

The Trojans defeated visiting North Central 4-3 with a run in the bottom of the ninth. PF earlier edged visiting Mt. Si of Snoqualmie 2-1 with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Tanya Vigil’s bases-loaded walk in the ninth vs. NC gave the decision to freshman Rosie Parrott (2-0), the winner in both games.

Parrott struck out seven vs. Mt. Si. Missy Brady scored the winning run in the seventh, on Jayme Smith’s one-out sacrifice fly.

In other non-leaguers, Bobbi Darretta pitched a three-hitter and Ingrid Lochelt went 2 for 2, with three runs, to lead Lake City to an 11-7 win over Mt. Si. … April Skubinna scattered nine hits as visiting Gonzaga Prep edged Lewiston 2-1 to split a doubleheader. Lewiston won the opener 11-1 and finished the day with a 21-8 edge in hits. … Shena Charles pitched a no-hitter in the second game and Nikki Gibson allowed one hit in the opener, leading St. Maries to a 28-2, 18-2 non-league sweep over visiting Kellogg, which played the first games in school history. Tiffany Holdahl and Tammy Addington combined for 15 RBIs and 9-for-10 hitting in the first game. … Coeur d’Alene’s home game against Shadle Park was snowed out. No makeup date was announced. … Moscow’s doubleheader at Orofino was postponed by rain. No makeup date was announced.

Shasta Burnach earned the win and had four RBIs as visiting Sandpoint defeated Clarkston 13-3 in the first game of a Border League opener. Clarkston won the second game 6-3, with Megan Smith allowing four hits in her first varsity game. Clarkston’s Layne Pavey went 4 for 7 with six RBIs.

Baseball

Mike Banks earned a save, striking out the final five batters, and Jeremy McMillen hit a solo home run in the fifth to help Lakeland to a 4-1, non-league win at Lake City.

In other non-leaguers, Joe Spears struck out 12 in four innings, and went 3 for 4 with three RBIs, leading Colville to a 14-3 win over visiting Timberlake. … Neil Litchfield singled, doubled and tripled during Lewiston’s 11-10 win over visiting Pendleton. … Rian Comer struck out eight and Cody Gans went 3 for 4 in the first game, an 8-3 win for Wallace at Kellogg. The host Wildcats won the second game 8-7, drawing 10 walks and scoring all unearned runs. … Moscow’s doubleheader at Orofino, and St. Maries’ doubleheader at Liberty were both postponed by rain. No makeup dates were announced.

Tom Wilson and Chad McCall combined to check Sandpoint on six hits, and Darin McCall had four hits on the day, leading Clarkston to a 9-4, 5-3 home sweep in a Border League opener.

Track and field

Shadle Park’s boys and University’s girls were team champions at the Clarkston Banana Belt Relays.

Lewiston’s Mike Anderson finished second in the boys 400-meter run, in 50.91 seconds.

Sandpoint’s Stacie Bolstad won the girls 400 in 1:00.30, and placed second in the 100 hurdles, at 16.48.
