Colville Pair Strike Gold At 3A District

Justin Drake and Deyna Tripp of Colville each won four gold medals as the District 7 3A track meet that wrapped up at West Valley on Friday.

Drake won the 100 (11.0 seconds) and 200 meters (22.9), tying his league-leading best, to go with the long jump (21-6) he won on Thursday. The Indians won both the 400 (44.5) and 1,600 (3:37.4).

Tripp also won the sprints (12.4 and 26.8) and was on the winning sprint relays. Colville won the 800 relay on Thursday and the 400 (51.9).

The top four in the two distances and field events advance to the 3A Eastern Regional against the Mid-Valley League next Thursday and Friday in Richland. The top three sprints and relays advance. The better of the No. 4 time compared to the Mid-Valley No. 7, will fill out the 10-lane field.

Colville had two other double winners. Crystal Evans cut 20 seconds off her best in the 3,200 (11:47.3) to go with the 1,600 she won on Thursday. Matt Snook swept the 110 (15.1) and 300 (40.8) hurdles.

West Valley boys swept the top four places in the high jump and pole vault.

Tom Townsen of Cheney improved his personal record in the discus 12-1/2 feet to 156 feet, 8 inches.

The 400 and 800 each had a pair of league-leading personal bests.

The 400 belonged to Colville with Brian Whitaker winning the boys’ race in 51.7 and Teanna Menhold the girls’ in 1:02.3.

The 800 winners were Ryan Kettleson of West Valley (2:02.2) and Brianna Lemke of Cheney (2:24.3).

Kim Olson and Melody Anderson were double winners in the two shortest and two longest races, respectively, and B.J. Bezdicek was a triple winner to lead St. John-Endicott to the girls and boys Whitman County titles.

Olson won the 100 (area best for B’s 12.7) and 200 (27.3). Anderson won the 1,600 (6:01) and 3,200 (12:45.5). Teammate Bre Schmick lowered the area best for B’s in the 300 hurdles to 48.7.

Danielle Ayers-Stamper of LaCrosse-Washtucna, second in the 100 and 200, won the 100 hurdles (15.0) and long jump (17-10).

The Eagles scored 165 points to 92 for the L-W girls.

Bezdicek took the 800 (2:09.6), 1,600 (4:47.2) and 3,200 (11:10.3) as the Eagles scored 130 points, 21 more than Tekoa-Oakesdale.

Wydell Duncan of the Eagles increased his area B best in the discus to 153-4.

Seth Perrins of T-O won the 100 (11.3), javelin (179-0) and pole vault (14-0). Teammate Sam Crossett won the long jump (18-6) and 400 (53.4).
