A local hearing examiner granted a continuance last week to Chris Christensen, the Silverton doctor accused of prescribing medicine that caused the death of one of his patients.

The hearing is now scheduled to begin Sept. 18.

The state Board of Medicine accused the doctor in April of violating a state order restricting his prescription privileges 171 times in the past several years.

Mary Leonard, a quality assurance specialist with the board of Medicine, said the continuance was signed May 9, after a request by Christensen’s attorney.
