Nic Honors Top Instructors, Staff

Three instructors and three staff members recently were honored by North Idaho College for outstanding contributions.

English instructor Lloyd Duman of Hayden Lake received the Faculty Achievement Award, which comes with a $1,500 check from the NIC Foundation. The winner is selected by a committee composed of the student body president, former award winners and the vice president for instruction.

Duman started in 1993 and became the international student adviser, baseball team academic adviser, coordinator for the English as a Second Language program and a student mentor. He also served on the college senate for four years.

“Lloyd works very hard to help his students succeed,” wrote English instructor Laureen Belmont in her nomination letter. “He is not an easy teacher, however. He demands a great deal of writing and insists on quality performance.”

Duman has a master’s degree in English from the University of Montana.

Two other faculty members nominated for the award - history instructor Pat Pidcock-Olson and biology instructor David Foster - received $500 checks from the Foundation.

Staff members Julie Hill, a groundskeeper; Mike Wolf, who works in maintenance; and Bill Rutherford, hospitality manager, received the “Employees of the Year” awards. The recipients were nominated and selected by NIC’s employees association.
