Residents Approve Sewer System Bond

Residents in the South Fork Sewer district approved a $5.6 million bond that will allow improvements to the two aging treatment plants.

The Tuesday vote was 1,281 in favor, 760 against. A simple majority was needed.

The district is under orders from the Environmental Protection Agency to improve the 25-year-old plants at Page and Mullan. The plants discharge into the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River.

Customers will pay, at most, an additional $9.41 per month to retire the bond, officials said. District officials hope to obtain grant money to help pay for $7 million worth of improvements.
