UI To Host Open House

Two geographic information systems companies will host an open house on Nov. 15 at the University of Idaho Research Park.

The event will be held in conjunction with GIS 2000, an international effort to show people how the technology is used throughout the world in environmental protection, health care, land-use planning and business.

“GIS is a computer-based tool for mapping and analyzing objects and events,” said Rich Lovel, CEO of Spatial Tek. “It combines the power of a database with the visualization capabilities offered by maps.”

Ascent GIS is the other host for the event, which runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

A highlight of the day is a presentation on a Centennial Trail “virtual map” project done by three students at the Riverbend Professional Technical Academy.

Public schools from Washington and Idaho are attending the event. Home school groups are also invited.
