Weinke expected to face Miami
Florida State quarterback Chris Weinke is expected to play Oct. 7 against Miami after tests showed he did not break any bones in his left foot during Thursday night’s victory at Maryland.
Weinke threw three touchdown passes before leaving early in the third quarter of the No. 2 Seminoles’ 59-7 victory over Maryland.
Still the Little West
Big West teams went 1-3 on Saturday, with the only victory being Idaho’s 56-7 blitzing of Montana State. New Mexico State, Arkansas State and North Texas are winless and Utah State’s only victory was against Division I-AA Southern Utah. For the record, Idaho’s I-A win was against Washington State.
Safety squeeze
Northern Colorado scored three safeties and held Minnesota State to minus-46 yards rushing in a 37-15 win. The UNC defense sacked Minnesota State nine times for 69 yards in losses.
Odds and ends
Michigan became the first Division I-A football program to reach 800 wins. Division I-AA Yale reached the milestone earlier this season… . Mississippi State’s victory against Florida was the Bulldogs’ first over a top-three team since beating No. 1 Alabama in 1980… . Marshall’s victory over Buffalo ran the Thundering Herd’s home winning streak to 33 games, tops in Division I-A.
