Breakdown On Pass Strands Bus Riders

A Greyhound bus broke down Friday morning just over the Montana border side of Lookout Pass. It caused a several-hour delay for the 47 passengers heading toward Seattle.

“It was kind of tense waiting for word,” said Bob Bonesteel of Eau Claire, Wis. “The bus broke down and overheated. People got antsy because we couldn’t get the word out on cell phones.”

Finally a police officer stopped and called in a school bus to take the stranded travelers to Sweets Cafe in Wallace.

“It was nice and happy once we got word that Greyhound was going to buy us breakfast,” Bonesteel said. “The big concern is whether we will meet our luggage and for the people who are waiting to meet us.”

On a bus for two days, Bonesteel was on his way to meet friends in Wenatchee.

“It wasn’t like Donner Pass,” he said. “We are in good hands.”
