Cheney clinched at least a share of the top spot in the Frontier League with a 24-14 win over Clarkston in Cheney.

The Blackhawks stayed on the ground in the first half to open an early lead.

Ben Woodard’s 33-yard run and Rhett Humphrey’s 36-yard scamper gave Cheney a 14-0 lead at halftime.

Clarkston rallied with a pair of rushing touchdowns in the fourth quarter. Mario Hernandez had an 8-yard touchdown and Brian Hocum added a 15-yard score.

Jason Clovis caught four passes for 104 yards for Clarkston (3-4, 2-4). Brian Baugh was 19 of 30 passing for 181 yards.

Clarkston outgained Cheney 229 total yards to 151.

Josh Sampson caught a 4-yard touchdown pass from Eric Rice with 26 seconds remaining as Colville (1-6) won its first game of the season, beating Chewelah 20-14 in a non-league game. Chewelah is 3-4. Chris Lowry led the Indians with 84 yards rushing… . Moscow (3-5, 3-4) intercepted three of the first four passes thrown by West Valley quarterback Tyler Baker in a 27-7 win. Matt Risley ripped off a 71-yard touchdown run for West Valley (3-4, 2-4) in the first quarter… In the Inland Empire League portion of the Border League, Paul Ziegler had 226 rushing yards on 38 carries as Coeur d’Alene (7-1, 6-1) clinched its first playoff berth since 1994 with a 35-14 win over Sandpoint (5-3, 5-2) at Sandpoint. The Vikings will be the region’s No. 2 seed in the Idaho State A-2 Division II playoffs… . Quarterback Matt Stern rushed for 102 yards and passed for 90 as Lake City (7-1, 7-1) clinched the region’s top berth into the Idaho State A-1 Division II playoffs with a 21-6 victory over Post Falls (1-7, 1-6).
