Trojans Overcome Bengals
Erin Murphy had six of her 10 digs in the third game Tuesday night to guide Post Falls’ comeback in a 6-15, 15-7, 15-10 win in Border League volleyball at Lewiston.
Aubree Johnson added 13 kills and four blocks for the Trojans (6-1, 2-1), who trailed in the third game 9-4.
Jessie Mattoon of the Bengals (2-3, 0-1) had seven kills and seven blocks.
Also in the Border League, Amy Stranger totaled 15 assists and four aces to help Coeur d’Alene (1-5, 1-2) to a 15-13, 15-5, 15-4 win over visiting Clarkston (0-6, 0-3)…. Rochelle Ruen had nine kills and six digs to help Sandpoint (9-3, 2-0) to a 15-4, 15-6, 15-0 win at Colville. Sandpoint finished with 33 digs. Janet Bach of the Indians (3-2, 2-1) had four kills and three blocks… . Zoe Catsiff served the final eight points of the second game and visiting Cheney (2-1) outlasted West Valley 15-7, 15-11, 16-14. Katie Regnier added 11 kills for Cheney. Lauren Parriman of the Eagles (1-2) had eight kills and six digs.
Kara Kiefer finished with 11 kills and six digs to lead Lakeland (7-1, 4-0) to a 15-9, 15-6 win at Priest River (0-6, 0-4) in the Intermountain League. Lakeland’s Sarah Hansen added four blocks… . Also in the IML, Jessica Yearout had 18 digs, and she and Arienne Wilcott added nine kills apiece to guide St. Maries (15-1, 3-0) to a 15-3, 15-12 win over visiting Kellogg (1-3 league). St. Maries jumped ahead 6-1 in the second game before the Wildcats rallied slightly.
Ashley Ruen totaled 28 digs and 11 aces, and Clark Fork (5-0, 2-0) rallied for a 6-15, 15-10, 15-11 win over Kootenai (3-5, 2-1) in a North Star League match at Harrison. CF lost its first league game in three years, but roared back despite 16 serving errors. Janelle Scheffelmaier and Cara Schlepp of Kootenai combined for 12 kills.
Wallace took a 15-5, 15-10 non-league win at Mullan (1-2). Shena Lane had six blocks, five aces and three kills for Mullan… . In another non-leaguer, Bonners Ferry (3-2) swept Selkirk 15-7, 15-5, 15-7 at Ione. No details were reported.
Girls soccer
Rebecca Sturm’s goal at 38 minutes held up for Sandpoint (5-2, 1-0) during a 1-0 Border League win at West Valley (2-3-1, 1-2)… . Also in the BL, Emily Squires totaled four goals and two assists to guide Cheney (4-1, 3-0) to a 7-3 win at Colville (2-3-1, 0-3). Colville’s Deyna Tripp accounted for two goals and one assist.
Boys soccer
Taran White totaled two goals and one assist, and Casey West added two goals to lead Bonners Ferry (4-4-1) to a 7-3 non-league win over visiting Post Falls (0-7-1).
Washington volleyball
Wendy Baker, Kelicia Shorts and Kari Vagstad had six kills apiece to help Mead (2-0) rally for a 16-18, 15-4, 15-7, 15-13 GSL win at North Central (0-3). NC held on for the first-game win after leading 6-1. Mead came back from a 13-8 fourth-game deficit, earning match point on a defensive error. Amy Oates led NC in kills, blocks and aces… . Stefanie Ferrette had five of her 12 kills in the second game and added 11 digs to help Shadle Park (6-2, 3-0) to a 3-0 win over visiting Central Valley (1-2). Shadle’s Ashley Bright returned from an ankle injury to post five blocks. The third game, after a 14-all tie, was decided by Katy Schrader’s ace… . Meghan Sanborn had nine kills and three aces to lead Lewis and Clark (2-0) to a 3-0 win over visiting East Valley (1-2) in a match that took 46 minutes. LC scored the last 15 points of the first game and the final 10 points of the third game… . Gonzaga Prep (2-1) went through just two rotations during the 15-0 second game and finished with a 3-0 sweep at Mt. Spokane. Sarah Everstine had 10 kills and seven digs for G-Prep, and Keva Sonderen’s serving led a comeback after Mt. Spokane led the third game 4-0. Tara Amistoso of the Wildcats (1-2) had 25 digs.
Sheena Rancourt served nine consecutive points in the second game to help Chewelah (1-2) toward a 3-0 win at Deer Park (0-3) in the Great Northern League.
