Security cameras help nab vandals at local skate park

Associated Press

POST FALLS – Police here credit security cameras with helping track down vandals who damaged the bleachers and bike rack at the skate park here.

Post Falls parks workers reported the vandalism to police on Aug. 6, Lt. Scott Haug said in a press release Wednesday.

A review of footage from several cameras at the skate park allowed police to identify and locate a number of people.

Four were interviewed, Haug said, and a juvenile confessed to damaging the bleachers.

According to the press release, the vandals used a crescent wrench to cause about $150 in damage. The vandal who confessed will be asked to pay to cover the damage, Haug said.

“This is another example of the benefits of camera systems,” Haug said.

“Based on the initial evidence in this case, we believe we would not have solved this case without the camera footage.”
