Storm end three-game losing skid
Lauren Jackson scored 15 of her 25 points in the second half and the Seattle Storm closed with a 16-6 run in the final six minutes to beat the San Antonio Silver Stars 75-59 Monday night in Seattle.
Sue Bird had 13 points, nine rebounds and eight assists as Seattle snapped a season-high three-game losing streak.
The Storm got a nice lift late in the contest from guard Betty Lennox, who finished with nine points, hitting a 3-pointer with 4:02 remaining to spark a 10-2 burst to close the game.
Margo Dydek led San Antonio with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Seattle trailed 33-29 at the break after shooting 32 percent in the first half, but the Storm opened the second half by scoring the first 12 points, hitting seven of their first nine shots.
Jackson, the WNBA’s No. 2 scorer with a 19.9 average, had eight points in the burst, including a three-point play that put Seattle up 46-40 with 14:35 to play.
Monarchs 67, Shock 51: At Auburn Hills, Mich., Ruthie Bolton scored 10 of her 11 points in the second half, spearheading a surge by the Sacramento bench that helped the Monarchs beat Detroit.
Sacramento’s bench outscored Detroit’s subs 43-11 a night after the Monarchs lost in overtime in Minnesota.
Deanna Nolan had 11 points and a career-best 10 rebounds for the Shock.
Milton-Jones to undergo surgery
Los Angeles Sparks forward DeLisha Milton-Jones, a member of the U.S. Olympic team, will undergo surgery on her right knee and miss the Athens Games.
Milton-Jones, who was injured in a WNBA game on Friday, underwent an MRI on Monday. It showed a torn medial meniscus and sprained medial collateral ligament. She will have ACL surgery and miss the rest of the WNBA season. No timetable for her recovery was given.
