Cantwell’s throw best in world
GRESHAM, Ore. — U.S. shot putter Christian Cantwell raised his arms in victory — then went to check the tape measure to confirm what he already knew.
His throw of 73 feet, 11 1/2 inches on Saturday at the Oregon Track Classic was the world’s best this year. It also was his career best.
John Capel, a former wide receiver at the University of Florida who tried to find a place in the NFL for two years before devoting himself full-time to track, won the 100 meters in 10.07.
Debbie Ferguson of Jamaica won a slow 200 in 22.84.
