Cycling
Sign up: Youth mountain bike rides for kids ages 12-15. One June 23, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. you will ride Riverfront State Park and on July 14 you will ride at Camp Sekani. You need a mountain bike and a helmet. Cost is $15. Register by June 21 and July 12. Info: (509) 625-6200.
July 10: Eleventh annual “Road to Adventure” scenic white pine bike tours at 7 a.m. in Moscow, Idaho. Meet at the Tidyman’s on Highway 8 (East). Choices are the Century Plus Ride (119 miles), the Metric Century Ride (64 miles) or the Troy Crazy Eight Ride (26 miles). Cost of $40 includes end-of-tour lunch buffet, T-shirt, poker run, multiple rest stops, high-energy snacks and sag wagons with first-aid. Info or registration: (208) 882-2814.
Fishing
June 19: Fly Fishing Safari on the North Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River with Doug Fagerness, for three anglers as a fund-raiser for the Kootenai Environmental Alliance water conservation program. Cost: $75, includes guided instruction and lunch. Info: (208) 667-9093.
Fitness
July 10: Fitness class for potential and current fitness instructors. Learn the basic academic and practical application of teaching group exercise at Downtown YMCA, 8 a.m. No college, science or teaching background required. July 11: Nutrition for fitness class at Downtown YMCA, 8 a.m. Examine the most current nutrition guidelines and learn how to apply them to your nutrition program as well as your clients. Hiking
June 23: The new guidebook “50 Hikes for Eastern Washington’s Highest Mountains,” will be featured in a slide show by Spokane author James P. Johnson, 7:30 p.m. at Auntie’s Bookstore, 402 W. Main.
Hockey
July 25-30: Sever’s Summer Hockey School at Planet Ice. Age groups include Squirts, Mites, Peewees, Bantams and Adults (17 and older). Adult sessions are held in the evening. Instructors and guest are Cam Severson (Anaheim Mighty Ducks), Ty Jones (Florida Panthers), Sean Zimmerman (Spokane Chiefs), Kimberly Ferraro (Power skating), Kris Graf (former Spokane Chief) and more. Lawn bowling
Sign up: Lawn bowling six days a week through October just south of Witter Pool on Mission. Monday, Wednesday and Friday bowling is at 7 p.m. and at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
Paddling
July 13-14 and 16-17: Canoe camping class includes two in-class sessions and a two-night trip. You will learn about the equipment needed, how to pack, what to eat and how to cook. All is provided except sleeping bags. Register by June 21. Cost: $124. Info: (509) 625-6200.

Soccer

Volleyball
July 31-Aug. 1: Thirteenth annual Spike and Dig 6-on-6 Volleyball Tournament at Spokane Falls Community College. Entry deadline is July 21. Cost is $150 per adult team and $110 for senior and junior high teams. After July 21, entry fee goes up to $180. Info: (509) 499-5150.
Sign up: Volleyball clinic series in July and August at the Spokane Club, 1101 W. Riverside. July clinics on Fridays will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for ages 7-12. Four Friday clinics will cover one skill each day —passing, setting, hitting and team play. August clinic, for ages 13-17, will run three Fridays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Clinics will cover passing and setting, hitting and team play. Cost varies for members/non-members and by age. Sign up: the 2004 Red Bull Outdoor Volleyball Tournament Series, held at North Idaho College, will consist of four tournament weekends. Sports Cellar Classic June 19-20, Spalding Spike Feet July 10-11, GC Open July 24-25, and the Red Bull Championship Aug. 7-8. Over $10,000 in cash and prizes. Men’s, Women’s, and junior doubles on Saturdays, reverse coed on Sundays.
