Saturday’s interleague games
Cubs 4, Athletics 3: Michael Barrett’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Chicago a win over visiting Oakland. Mark Mulder outpitched Mark Prior in a marquee matchup, helping Oakland take a 3-2 lead into the ninth. But with closer Arthur Rhodes absent, Chad Bradford couldn’t hold it. Derrek Lee went 4 for 4 for the Cubs, and Barrett had three RBIs.
Giants 6, Red Sox 4: Edgardo Alfonzo hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning to lead San Francisco past visiting Boston. The Red Sox pleased the sellout crowd by pitching to Barry Bonds in the highly anticipated meeting between the six-time N.L. MVP and Pedro Martinez, a three-time Cy Young Award winner. Bonds finished 0 for 4, with a strikeout, flyout, popout and groundout. He came in hitting .367 lifetime with a homer against Martinez.
Angels 6, Astros 4: Ramon Ortiz pitched six scoreless innings, Vladimir Guerrero homered and drove in three runs and Anaheim handed Roger Clemens his second straight loss by getting a win in Houston. Ortiz (3-5) easily outpitched Clemens, allowing only three hits with five strikeouts in his best start of the season.
Expos 17, White Sox 14: Montreal ended its seven-game losing streak in a big way, scoring 11 times in the second inning and holding on for a wild win over visiting Chicago. Tim Raines’ No. 30 was retired by the Expos in a pregame ceremony as the game drew 18,114, the biggest Olympic Stadium crowd since 30,112 attended the team’s Montreal opener on Apr. 23.
Mets 4, Tigers 3 (10): Mike Cameron’s second game-winning hit in two nights propelled New York past visiting Detroit. Cameron, whose ninth-inning homer won Friday’s game, drove a ball to the left-field warning track for a 10th inning game-winning single.
Rangers 7, Marlins 6: At Miami, Eric Young drove in three runs, Kevin Mench hit a two-run homer and Texas held for a win over Florida. Young had a two-run double in the second inning and an RBI single in the fifth.
Phillies 4, Royals 2: Jim Thome hit his major league-leading 21st homer and Eric Milton earned his ninth win as Philadelphia beat visiting Kansas City. The Phillies hadn’t beaten the Royals since Game 6 of the 1980 World Series. Placido Polanco also homered for the Phillies.
Yankees 6, Dodgers 2: Hideki Matsui hit a three-run homer in his first at-bat against Hideo Nomo, and Brad Halsey won his major league debut as New York won in Los Angeles. Halsey (1-0) was called up earlier in the day from Triple-A Columbus.
Brewers 7, Twins 6: Geoff Jenkins hit a tiebreaking homer leading off the eighth inning and Milwaukee rallied from a five-run deficit to beat visiting Minnesota.
Braves 4, Indians 0: Paul Byrd pitched seven shutout innings in his first start since 2002, and Eli Marrero and Julio Franco hit two-run homers to lead Atlanta past visiting Cleveland. Byrd held the Indians to four hits and did not walk a batter.
Padres 3, Blue Jays 2: Trevor Hoffman earned his 367th career save to tie Jeff Reardon for fourth on the career list, and San Diego rallied to beat visiting Toronto to end its season-high six-game losing streak.
Rockies 11, Orioles 6: Preston Wilson drove in four runs in his second game since coming off the disabled list and Jeff Fassero threw five-plus solid innings to win for the first time in nearly a year as Colorado beat visiting Baltimore.
Devil Rays 11, Diamondbacks 4: At Phoenix, Tino Martinez drove in five runs with a homer and a double, powering Tampa Bay to a win over Arizona, its 10th consecutive win. The Devil Rays are a major league-best 10-1 in interleague play and have won 21 of 27 games.

Cardinals 9, Reds 2: For the second straight game, Albert Pujols upstaged Ken Griffey’s quest for 500 homers, hitting a three-run shot in the seventh as St. Louis beat visiting Cincinnati.
