Yankees 12, Orioles 9: At Baltimore, Gary Sheffield went 4 for 5 with a homer and six RBIs, and New York used a five-run seventh inning to hand the Orioles their sixth straight loss. In a wild game that featured 30 hits, five home runs and a 65-minute rain delay, the Yankees blew a 7-3 lead by allowing six runs in the sixth, then rallied against the Baltimore bullpen in the seventh.

Blue Jays 6, Angels 5: At Toronto, Vernon Wells and Gregg Zaun hit run-scoring singles in the ninth inning off closer Troy Percival, rallying the Blue Jays to a victory over Anaheim.

Red Sox 9, Athletics 6: At Boston, Jason Varitek hit a three-run homer to lead the Red Sox past Oakland. Keith Foulke pitched a perfect ninth for his 10th save in as many chances.

Royals 7, Tigers 3: At Kansas City, Mo., Matt Stairs and Mike Sweeney hit two-run homers, powering the Royals to a win over Detroit.

Twins 4, Devil Rays 2: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Jacque Jones had a go-ahead, two-run double and Minnesota defeated the Devil Rays, ending Tampa Bay’s five-game winning streak.

White Sox 4, Rangers 0: At Chicago, Esteban Loaiza allowed two hits and struck out nine in eight innings to lead the White Sox to a win over Texas.
