Cheney’s Igbinoba leads rushers

The Spokesman-Review

Cheney’s Brett Igbinoba led the Greater Spokane League in rushing this season, finishing with 1,232 yards to hold off Derek Brown of North Central (1,194) and Ethen Robinson of Lewis and Clark (1,156).

Because of incorrect statistics supplied to The Spokesman-Review from NC’s Thursday night win over West Valley, Brown was erroneously credited with 1,268 in Friday’s paper. In the Indians’ 28-21 win, Louis Hurd had the 74-yard scoring run credited to Brown, giving Hurd a season-high 134 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Brown’s game rushing total was 109 yards, leaving him behind Igbinoba.

Josh Powell and Jason Curtis once again went 1-2 in GSL passing yards, only this year the results were reversed. Clarkston’s Curtis, second last season, threw for a GSL-leading 1,471 yards while Shadle Park’s Powell finished with 1,358.

Caleb Rath of Ferris unseated Powell as the league’s total offense leader, throwing for 1,247 yards and rushing for another 589 for his 1,836 total. Gonzaga Prep’s Billy Karwacki led the league in touchdown passes with 13.

Shadle’s Andy Largent, recipient of many of Powell’s tosses, had 107 receiving yards the final week to finish with 606 and edged University’s Matt Hanna, who ended with 577.
