Swerve at cyclists nets anger counseling

Associated Press

HELENA – A man accused of using his car to frighten bicyclists in a road race must receive counseling for anger management.

A judge Thursday placed that requirement on Raymond J. Bennett of Lincoln, Mont., in giving him a two-year deferred sentence. Bennett was charged with criminal endangerment and pleaded guilty this month.

Cyclists last spring reported that a motorist swerved toward them near Helena and shouted obscenities. They said abusive behavior continued when the motorist met another bike group, down the road. Authorities were told he put his car in reverse, tried to run into the cyclists, then left the scene.

No one was injured.
