Tim Morris took a pitch around the left side of the Medical Lake offensive line with 51 seconds to play and scored to lift the Cardinals to a 14-7 Great Northern League win over Lakeside on the Cardinals’ home field.
Morris was a workhorse for Medical Lake, packing the ball 27 times and piling up 156 yards.
The Cardinals started their winning drive by picking off a Lakeside pass at midfield.
In other GNL games, Colville rolled to a 29-6 win over visiting Deer Park. Quarterback Tyler Emmil rushed for one touchdown and passed for another. … Riverside scored 28 first-half points and held on for a 28-14 win at Chewelah. Tyler Dornquast completed 20 of 30 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, and squeezed into the end zone twice from the 1 in the first quarter. Buddy Wood caught 11 passes for 136 yards and a touchdown for the Rams.
In a non-league game, Pullman scored 17 first-quarter points en route to a 37-7 victory over visiting Moscow. Junior Jeff Jones completed 16 of 27 passes for 203 yards and rushed for two touchdowns for the Greyhounds. Senior halfback Kyle Hinrichs caught six passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, rushed for 44 yards on six carries and on defense intercepted two passes.

Freeman gave up two touchdowns, the first points scored on the Scotties this season, but it wasn’t enough as Kevin Hatch rushed for two touchdowns to spark a 27-12 victory over Newport in a league opener. The senior running back dashed 80 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter, then squirted into the end zone from 10 yards out for a 14-0 lead. … Jason Azzarito and Tanner Bircher combined on three long touchdowns as Kettle Falls rolled to a 37-24 win at Colfax. Azzarito booted a 30-yard field goal to open the scoring, then found Bircher on throws of 31, 40 and 49 yards

Quick start keys win for Republic
Republic scored three first-quarter touchdowns to spark a 27-12 victory over visiting Wilbur-Creston. Sophomore Todd Orestad ran 69 yards for a score to open the scoring for the Tigers, and quarterback Gabe Giddings squeezed over twice from the 2 for the 21-0 lead. Giddings, who doubles as a linebacker, was involved in 19 tackles, five solo. … Lind-Ritzville hung 45 points on Odessa in the first quarter alone, rolling to a 53-20 road victory. The Tigers aided the first-quarter assault by fumbling away a pair of kickoffs. Junior quarterback Travis Dewald threw for four first-quarter touchdowns, two to Andy Wellsandt. Senior running back Jake Kragt scored twice, as did junior Nick Ashley, who dashed 60 yards for one score. … Liberty rolled at Springdale, blanking the Chargers 41-0. Quarterback Andrew Canning threw for one touchdown and dashed 65 yards for another. … Quarterback Ian Wagner threw a pair of touchdowns and the Reardan defense matched the effort with a pair of scores as the Indians blanked Davenport 25-0. Peone dashes for 177 yards for Hornets
Inchelium rolled to a 32-20 victory at Cusick. Cody Peone carried 17 times for 177 yards to lead the Hornets. … Tiny Moses threw for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass as Wellpinit scored a Northeast B-8 win at home over Curlew, 34-6. Curlew’s lone touchdown came on a 50-yard interception return in the second quarter.

Andrew Wolfe threw four touchdown passes as St. John-Endicott downed Tri-Cities Prep, 48-20. Kurt Bowen caught three scoring passes and Brent Leifer rushed for a pair of touchdowns. … LaCrosse-Washtucna pasted visiting Prescott, 56-7 for the Tigercats 27th straight victory. Senior Josh Chastain rolled up 224 yards on just 11 carries and reached the end zone four times on runs of 45, 44, 24 and 10 yards. The two-time defending state Class B-8 champions amassed 358 rushing yards in a game stopped after three quarters.
In a non-league B-8 game, Garfield-Palouse rolled over Colton/Pullman Christian, 66-44.

Sandpoint romps over Lewiston
The bad news first: Sandpoint’s vaunted defense finally proved vulnerable. Slightly.
The better news is that the Bulldogs’ Blake Mahler was almost unstoppable as he sparked a 52-19 Inland Empire League win over visiting Lewiston.
The senior wide receiver caught four touchdown passes from Eric DeMers, including a 62-yard scoring catch in the second quarter and a 70-yard strike in the third, dashed 33 yards for a fifth score, booted a 31-yard field goal and kicked six of seven PATs.
All tolled, Mahler caught eight passes for 217 yards for the Bulldogs – pulling in all eight of DeMers completed passes.
Coming into the game, Sandpoint had given up just one touchdown in 16 quarters of play, and the Bulldogs ran the string to 17 before Tyler Squires tossed a 14-yard scoring pass.
In other IEL action, senior quarterback K.C. Billetz threw for two touchdowns and ran for a third to lead Post Falls to a 22-20 win over Coeur d’Alene at Post Falls.
The Trojans needed to defend a two-point conversion attempt by the Vikings in the fourth quarter to preserve the win. Billetz heaved a 60-yard scoring strike for the game-winning score. The senior completed 10 of 25 passes for 208 yards to lead unbeaten Post Falls.
Lake City rolled to a 42-26 win over Lakeland in Rathdrum. Quarterback Ben Widmyer completed 16 of 23 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns and added a fourth on a 75-yard run in the first quarter.
