Expos 12, Phillies 8: At Philadelphia, Tony Batista hit a go-ahead two-run single in Montreal’s five-run ninth inning, and the Expos rallied to a victory over Philadelphia. Batista had three runs batted in to give him 100.

Astros 2, Brewers 1: At Houston, Roy Oswalt aggravated a ribcage injury but pitched long enough to get his 18th win, and Mike Lamb hit a go-ahead homer off former Olympic teammate Ben Sheets in the seventh to lead Houston over Milwaukee.

Cubs 12, Reds 4: Derrek Lee drove in five runs with a three-run homer and a two-run double, and visiting Chicago beat Cincinnati for its fifth consecutive win. The Cubs’ Ben Grieve homered and had three RBIs.

Braves 8, Marlins 1: At Miami, Chipper Jones hit a three-run homer to help Atlanta overcome an early deficit, and the Braves reduced their magic number for clinching the East to eight by beating Florida.

Cardinals 4, Diamondbacks 3: At St. Louis, Jim Edmonds tripled home the winning run in the ninth, and St. Louis beat Arizona to reduce its magic number for clinching the Central to three. Edmonds has 110 RBIs, matching his career best in 2001.

Giants 4, Padres 1: At San Francisco, Barry Bonds 700th career home run led San Francisco to its sixth consecutive win by defeating San Diego. Rookie Noah Lowry pitched 6 2/3 strong innings to remain unbeaten in the majors. Lowry (5-0) allowed five hits and two walks before he left the game in the seventh.

Dodgers 8, Rockies 6 (10): At Denver, Cesar Izturis hit a tiebreaking, two-run double in the 10th, helping Los Angeles overcome another shaky start by Hideo Nomo and rally past Colorado.

Mets at Pirates, ppd: At Pittsburgh, the opener of the three-game series between New York and Pittsburgh was postponed because of rain from the remnants of Hurricane Ivan. The game will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
