G-Prep hands U-Hi a loss

Gonzaga Prep converted four of five shots during a shootout Friday to knock University from the ranks of Greater Spokane League girls soccer undefeated teams with a 2-1 win over U-Hi.

G-Prep junior forward Sarah Dean scored from 25 yards out early in the second half to even the score at 1. In the shootout Dean, Alex Butler, Caitlyn Davis and Jessica Miller all scored, while the Titans found the net once.

In other GSL matches, Cheney stampeded visiting Clarkston 6-1 as six different players scored goals. Junior forward Becky Sitzner and freshman midfielder Kaitlyn Proctor each had a goal and an assist for the Blackhawks, who broke a three-match scoring drought. … Rachel Shaw‘s 6-yard header off an East Valley corner kick midway through the second half lifted the Knights to a 2-1 win over visiting North Central. Whitney Ramsey, the league’s leading scorer, managed an assist, but was tightly checked by Shaw the entire game. … Ferris made Brooke LaFleur‘s goal at the 14-minute mark stand up for a 1-0 victory over visiting Mt. Spokane. … Jennifer McKinsey‘s hat trick lifted Central Valley to a 3-2 win over host Lewis and Clark at Hart Field. Freshman goalkeeper Mallory Flesher made 13 saves for the Bears, who were outshot 21-12 by the Tigers. … Jenna Isherwood and Allie Allen each had a pair of goals and an assist as West Valley posted a 6-0 win at Rogers. … Mead got a pair of goals from Jaimey Etten and roared back from a 1-0 deficit to beat host Shadle Park 3-1.
