Hale helps Cheney split doubleheader with Clarkston

Thomas Hale struck out the side in the seventh inning, the latter two coming with the bases loaded, as Cheney won the second game to earn a split of a Greater Spokane League doubleheader Saturday with visiting Clarkston.

The Eagles turned five walks into a five-run second inning and Trevor Harkema’s two-run single in the fourth supplied the winning runs.

In the first game, Eric Entel went 2 for 4 with a pair of two-run doubles as Clarkston won in a rout, 13-2.

In other GSL games, Logan Davenport struck out 13 in a complete-game, one-hitter as North Central routed visiting Lewis and Clark 10-0. Davenport also went 3 for 3 with a home run and a pair of doubles. … Kenny VanSickle finished 2 for 3 with a pair of doubles and knocked in the winning run in a three-run third inning as University upended Shadle Park 3-2 at University.

Great Northern League

Kyle Hinrichs was 3 for 4 with a pair of RBIs as Pullman won game two and swept a doubleheader with Riverside at Pullman.

Taylor McManhan was 2 for 4 as the Greyhounds (2-0) won game two 12-3. In the first game, Justin Cooper threw a complete-game three-hitter as Pullman beat Riverside (2-4) 11-1.

In other GNL games, Nick Wegeleban threw a three-hit shutout as Colville routed Deer Park 12-0 to complete a double-header sweep in Deer Park. The first game was even worse for the Stags as Travis Leclaire threw a three-hit shutout and was 3 for 4 with a home run as the Indians won 32-0. … Alex Stillar threw a complete-game four-hitter, striking out 10 and walking none as Lakeside upended Chewelah 2-0 to earn a split of a doubleheader in Lakeside. In game one, Cameron Stroyan had a two-run home run as Chewelah won 6-3.

Soccer

Erik Kuno capped off his hat-trick in the 80th minute and Cameron Dornquast added a pair of goals as Riverside rolled to an 8-2 win over Colville in a Great Northern League matchup in Colville.

The Rams outshot the Indians 27-9.

In other GNL games, Carl Haas had a goal and three assists as Pullman cruised past Deer Park 5-1 in Deer Park. Pullman outshot the Stags 19-6. … Five different players scored as Lakeside equaled its all-time record for wins in a season with six by beating visiting Chewelah 5-2.

Track and field

Nick Cupron took the boys shot put and the discus and Kayla KcKiernan won the girls 200 meters and the long jump as Richland won both the boys and girls team titles at the Ray Cross Invitational in Ephrata, Wash.

Cupron threw 52 feet, 11 inches to win the shot put by nearly two feet. His throw of 148-06 in the discus won that event by over five feet as Richland’s boys finished with 135 points. Newport was second at 75 with Ballard third at 51.

McKiernan won the 200 meters in a time of 26.25 seconds, more than a second faster than second place. She jumped 17 feet to win the long jump by over a foot and also finished second in the 100 meters as Richland’s girls finished with 134.5 points, easily beating second-place Riverside Christian, which finished with 97. Lakeside (Nine Mile) finished third with 68 points.
