CCS, Blue Mountain CC split baseball doubleheader

Luke Farden struck out 10 in a complete-game, five-hitter and Ryan Winston was 4 for 5 and drove in three runs to lead the Community Colleges of Spokane to a 7-2 victory over Blue Mountain Community College in the first game of an NWAACC doubleheader at Pendelton, Ore.

Kevin Young doubled twice and drove in a run on 3-for-4 hitting to back CCS (14-3, 5-1).

Blue Mountain (7-12, 1-5) came back to salvage a split of the doubleheader with a 3-0 win in the nightcap.

Track and field

Washington State redshirt sophomores Diana Pickler and her sister Julie Pickler are in first and third place, respectively, after the first day of the women’s heptathlon at the 78th annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Austin, Texas.

Diana Pickler leads the 17-woman field after the first four events with a lifetime-best 3,354 points. Julie Pickler accumulated 3,252 points, 32 less than second-place Jennifer Johnson of Texas A&M.

In the men’s decathlon, junior Darion Powell withdrew from the event after failing to clear the high jump at 5-9 3/4 .
