Devil Rays 11, Athletics 2: Josh Phelps and Aubrey Huff both hit three-run homers and the Tampa Bay roughed up Oakland and starter Barry Zito in St. Petersburg, Fla. Hideo Nomo (1-0) won his Tampa Bay debut, giving up one run and one hit in six innings. Zito (0-2) gave up a career-high 11 runs in just 3 1/3 innings.
White Sox 8, Twins 5: Carl Everett, Timo Perez and Paul Konerko each homered to lead Chicago to a victory over Minnesota in Minneapolis.
Yankees 8, Orioles 5: Ruben Sierra snapped a seventh-inning tie with a three-run homer, and New York rallied from four runs down to defeat visiting Baltimore.
Blue Jays 12, Red Sox 5: Gregg Zaun hit a grand slam to spark a six-run eighth and Vernon Wells, Corey Koskie and Shea Hillenbrand hit consecutive homers off David Wells in the third to lead Toronto over visiting Boston.
Tigers 11, Indians 1: Marcus Thames hit a grand slam and Brandon Inge finished a homer short of the cycle, leading Detroit to a rout of visiting Cleveland.
Angels 8, Royals 3: Vladimir Guerrero and Chone Figgins each had two RBIs and Los Angeles scored four unearned runs in a win over visiting Kansas City.
National League
Astros 4, Reds 3: Pinch-hitter Jose Vizcaino hit an RBI double with no outs in the bottom of the ninth as Houston rallied from three runs down to beat visiting Cincinnati.
Braves 6, Mets 3: Brian Jordan hit a grand slam to lead Atlanta past New York for its fourth straight victory. Chipper Jones also homered to help the Braves keep the Mets as the only winless team in the majors.
Phillies 10, Cardinals 4: Rookie Gavin Floyd pitched seven dominant innings, retiring 19 straight batters, to lead Philadelphia to a road win over St. Louis. Pat Burrell was 4 for 5 with a homer and five RBIs for the Phillies.
Cubs 4, Brewers 0: Carlos Zambrano pitched one-hit ball into the eighth and had two singles and an RBI as Chicago handed visiting Milwaukee its first loss of the season.
Giants 4, Rockies 2: Michael Tucker hit his first career grand slam with two outs in the eighth inning to lift San Francisco over Colorado. Tucker hit Scott Dohmann’s first pitch over the right-field wall into McCovey Cove.
Nationals 3, Marlins 2 (10): Jose Guillen hit a two-out home run in the 10th inning, and Ryan Church and Vinny Castilla also hit solo homers to help Washington slip past Florida in Miami.
Padres 11, Pirates 3: Xavier Nady had four hits and a career-high four RBIs to lead San Diego to a rout over visiting Pittsburgh. Nady had a three-run homer, a triple and two singles for his first career four-hit game.
Dodgers 12, Diamondbacks 10 (11): Jeff Kent doubled in three runs in the top of the 11th inning to lift visiting Los Angeles to a victory over Arizona.
