New store going up in Spirit Lake
Three generations of Miller family grocers will be present today as they break ground on a new 22,000-square-foot store in Spirit Lake, Idaho.
Joe Miller Sr. opened the family’s first grocery store and post office in Cataldo, Idaho, in the mid 1940s. The store closed in the late 1960s.
“Our present store, which is only 5,500 square feet, was started by my father, Joe Miller Jr. in March of 1980,” said owner Kevin Miller.
The new store will be built directly behind the store’s current location and will be called Miller’s Harvest Foods. It will be four times larger with an expanded meat shop, produce department and sit-down service deli. URM Stores Inc. will continue to be the grocery supplier.
The store is at 515 S. Fifth Ave. in Spirit Lake. The official groundbreaking will be today at 10 a.m.
