Storm clinch playoff berth with victory over San Antonio

Betty Lennox and Tanisha Wright led the defending WNBA champion Seattle Storm back into the playoffs with a 78-51 victory Tuesday night over the San Antonio Silver Stars in San Antonio.

Lennox, playing for the first time in six games since partially tearing ligaments in her left wrist, scored 12 points in 14 minutes. Wright also scored 12.

Monarchs 76, Mercury 70: At Sacramento, Calif., Yolanda Griffith had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and surging Sacramento never trailed in defeating Phoenix.

Sparks 73, Lynx 63: At Los Angeles, Chamique Holdsclaw had 20 points and eight rebounds, and tied a career high with seven assists to lead the Sparks over Minnesota.

Fever 69, Sun 63: At Uncasville, Conn., Tamika Catchings scored 18 points and grabbed a key defensive rebound in the closing seconds to lead a rally that gave Indiana a victory over Connecticut.

Sting 56, Shock 49: At Charlotte, N.C., Sheri Sam and Teana Miller scored 12 points apiece as the league-worst Sting damaged Detroit’s playoff hopes with a victory.

Mystics 82, Liberty 69 (OT): At Washington, Chasity Melvin matched her career high with 30 points and grabbed nine rebounds as the Mystics topped New York in overtime.
