Hiking Switzerland – Members of the Spokane Mountaineers will present a slide show on Switzerland and discuss hiking in the area, 7 p.m. Monday at the Corbin Senior Center, 827 W. Cleveland; 838-4974.

Community fun run – The three-mile Llew’s Loop fun run in honor of recently retired University High School cross country coach Steve Llewellyn starts at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pines and 34th. Registration is on-site. The run is free; 255-6123.

Benefit event – Christian Youth Theater is hosting a benefit to raise money to help replace costumes and sets lost in a recent fire, 6 p.m. Dec. 28 at the Met downtown. The evening, titled “Encore, Encore! The Stars are Out Tonight,” showcases numbers from last season’s shows and a live and silent auction. Tickets are $20; call 487-6540 for reservations.

Spokane City Forum – The monthly luncheon features The Spokesman-Review Editor Steven Smith speaking on “A Question of Values: Why Healthy Communities Requires a Healthy Press,” 11:45 a.m. Jan. 18 at First Presbyterian Church, 318 S.
