No plan? No need to panic

You forgot. Again. Valentine’s Day is looming and you’ve got nothing… no dinner reservation, no flowers on order, nothing to show your sweetheart just how much you love them.

The Red Lion Hotel at the Park and Dairy Farmers of Washington had poor fools like you in mind when they created this special.

The Windows of the Season restaurant is offering a heart shaped Petite Baked Brie in Pastry for last minute shoppers, or anyone who wants to add another simple touch to their celebration of love.

The pastry is served with apples, seasonal berries and raspberry coulis and serves two. “Brie is the ultimate romantic cheese,” said Kevin Baker, director of food and beverage for Red Lion at the Park in a news release. He recommends serving the cheese with a sparkling wine, Chardonnay or a medium-bodied pinot noir.

The Valentine’s Day special is $9.95. For an extra $3.50 they’ll throw in a single rose.

The Baked Brie in Pastry only has to be put in the microwave before serving. To order call 328-9526. The hotel is located at 303 W. North River Dr.

Burgers for Baby

Give the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery a boost by buying a burger.

On Valentine’s Day, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers will launch its fifth annual “Burgers With a Heart” fund-raiser. For every burger sold from Feb. 14 to 27, the restaurant will donate 50 cents to the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery.

The nursery is a safe place for Spokane-area children at risk for abuse and neglect. In the past four years, the “Burgers With a Heart,” campaign has raised $45,743 for the nursery. “(It) has helped us provide 18,225 hours of safety and comfort to at-risk children in our community,” said Heidi Cook, executive director of the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery in a news release.

Local television personalities will help kick off the event on Monday by visiting the three local restaurants and helping sell specially-designed Red Robin hearts for $1. Area high schools will also host a night at one of the restaurant locations and compete against each other to sell the most paper hearts to diners. Mead High School won last year’s competition and the traveling trophy.

There are three Red Robin locations in Spokane: 725 W. Main Ave., 9904 N. Newport Highway and 14736 E. Indiana Ave.
